VB.NET SQL Application Developer - (East Midlands)

VB.Net / SQL Application Developer
Location - Leicestershire / Northamptonshire border
Salary - Up to 27k

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a VB.Net / SQL Server Application Developer to work as part of a development team of 5, the Application Developer will take responsibility for the development, enhancement & support of a diverse internal client & server applications.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake all facets of the whole development life-cycle, including gathering and implementing business requirements, defining solutions, database creation, developing code, and ensuring quality standards are maintained by rigorous system and user acceptance testing. The remit will include developing new systems and supporting existing systems by providing fixes and modifications that extend their functionality.
It is important that the individual has strong business facing skills to talk through and understand the various business requests which the application team work through.
The systems involved are broad ranging and are predominantly created using VB.NET and MS SQL Server. Projects could include working on a call centre solution, developing reports for the operations teams or a new application to interface with core business system
The role will allow the successful candidate to gain experience in web development as well as client server application development. Relevant training will be provided to become a successful, accomplished member of the development team.
Further responsibilities will include:
* Writing efficient and logically correct programs mainly in VB.NET
* Creating/Tuning/Updating of MS SQL Databases
* Managing application faults reported through the service desk
* Guide and support users in creating business requirements documentation and working with the team to propose a workable solution with estimates of time and cost
* Performing unit testing on programs written internally
Skills required:
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who is eager to learn and expand their development experience.
Required Skills/Experience:
* Relevant application development experience within the .NET framework
* Strong development skills around VB.NET (VB 7 or later) / Visual studio
* Good knowledge of SQL Server 2000 / 2005 including T-SQL, stored procedures, performance tuning, DTS, SSIS and SSRS
* Strong problem solving/analytical skills
* Excellent business facing, communication skills
* Experience working within a structured, business driven environment
Desirable Skills/Experience:
* Knowledge of web / ASP.NET development
