Broad content of Role:
This is a European wide role, based within the Hosted division of the business. As an operational engineer you will join a team responsible for the smooth running of our operational environment. This environment connects to and distributes data globally from all of the largest equity and derivative exchanges supporting a large and demanding trading community. You will be expected to provide technical analysis, 3rd line support and to help build tools and reports to aid the smooth running of our services.
Key Requirements: Unix, Linux, Solaris, TCL, Python, PHP
* A technology related degree.
* Determination to investigate, understand and report on complex system behaviours without losing focus.
* Methodical approach to problem solving.
* Ability to work under pressure, proactively using new or existing contacts to resolve issues.
* Familiarity with a modern UNIX environment, such as Linux or Solaris and networking.
* Proficiency in one of TCL, Python or PHP scripting languages.
* Familiarity with relational database concepts and the software development lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities: Unix, Linux, Solaris, TCL, Python, PHP
* Understand and become familiar with Fidessa technologies and our operational environment.
* Write ad-hoc scripts to analyse and summarise logs.
* Author ad-hoc reports to clarify issues and help identify trends.
* 3rd line support for our production and test environments.
* Work with support, development, hardware and network specialists to identify and solve problems.
* Recreation of reported issues in our test environment.
* Raise bug reports and assist development in understanding the issues.
* Use PHP, SQL and TCL to write scripts or web pages to expand our monitoring and reporting systems.
* Design, development, testing and implementation of new operational tools.
