Client Overview: Regional Transportation Firm

A regional transportation firm recognised the need to leverage information technology to upgrade its service capability and increase the efficiency of its operations. The initial effort was focused on the development and implementation of dispatching and EDI applications. The dispatch module will make it possible for multiple users to enter and view multiple "leg" trips, allowing better control of logistics. A leg is essentially a stop that a given truck and driver makes on a route. Another goal of this project was to ensure that information is tracked regarding the chassis and container for each truck, further enhancing management capability to optimise inventory and trips.

Client Overview: Global Freight Transportation Company

This global freight transportation and logistics services provider operates a rail network in the eastern United States, and provides intermodal transportation services across the United States and into key markets in Canada and Mexico. Its principal business units provide rail, container-shipping, intermodal and contract logistics services. Recently, the company expanded its core rail and intermodal operations with the integration of key portions of an acquired major competitor.

Based on the complexity, scope, and geographic reach of its operation, many ongoing projects exist in the quest for better integration of its vast operations and increased efficiencies through the effective use of information technology. One important project that has been in place for several years is the expansion of the extent of PeopleSoft HR software systems utilisation. For the support of this and many other projects, the client has acquired consulting help to handle the increased workload and the critical need for specific technical knowledge.
