The Modis Solution: Providing consultants to facilitate major acquisition

In 2004, this client merged with another key player in the wireless communications industry and began numerous projects to assimilate the two businesses. Modis has managed multiple projects spurred by this merger.

The project developers are responsible for working with one of the client’s key application development teams to deliver the code as defined in the detailed functional specifications for billing conversions. This project migrates the legacy data from the newly acquired partner into the client’s existing application. It also involves developing programs to automate the loading process and work through issues that arise during loading process.

Our consultants worked within client processes and methodologies to complete the project. Deliverables included developing detailed functional specifications meeting business requirements, creating detailed design for components to support migration of the legacy blue data (AFP, .pdf, Image, ASCII documents) into the client’s application, developing components as per design using Perl, Scoop, Korn scripts, Java and other tools and languages as necessary as well as extensive testing.

• The client also awarded Modis a contract to replace other major competitors’ consultants with our own. This project was with the client and a third-party software vendor to deploy a CRM Application to more than 20 call center sites nationally.

Modis provided several quality assurance analysts who had specific experience with Unix, SQL, quality control/testing methodology and cellular billing applications. Tasks for our analysts included executing command-level Unix and shell scripts with troubleshooting, providing manual testing for specific retail and billing applications and setting up unique environments. Specifically, our analysts were responsible for the review of business and technical requirements and design documentation, as well as the translation of that information into test plans. They also were responsible for creating and maintaining test scripts (Unix scripting) that accurately certified all requirements identified in the project at hand. Other duties included:

• Executing pricing/wisdom processes in the test environment and analyzing the results to ensure that all results and outputs satisfy the business and technical requirements.
• Identifying defects and ensuring said defects are resolved and retested.

The client called on Modis to complete the installation when they decided to replace the consultants supplied by their original provider. Our consultants are responsible for Tier 3 escalation support and for successfully deploying multiple versions of the CRM application.

The client offers helpdesk support for their clients from a centralized Network Operating Center. They needed assistance augmenting their staff at the facility.

Modis provided helpdesk consultants with previous Network Operating Center Experience. The client selected Modis because of our ability to provide skilled contractors, with a quick turnaround at very competitive rates.

The Modis Solution: Primary vendor partnership program ends management strain

The client had an approved list of nearly two dozen vendors to fulfill their information technology staffing needs. However, due to field managers’ lack of knowledge of this list, many hired hundreds more vendors on an as-needed basis. All vendors had separate billing procedures, invoices and bill rates for their consultants. The result was a quagmire of paperwork causing the company to lose time and money.

To alleviate this problem, Modis proposed the Primary Vendor Partnership Program. We became the primary contact for the client’s contracts with non-preferred vendors. Modis is not an exclusive provider, but we do have a substantial portion of the volume of non-preferred vendors.

Client managers still work with the non-preferred vendors of their choice. Modis also created and maintains a vendor-centric Web site that provides details on new company opportunities throughout the world.

Services we provide include:

• Consolidated invoice
• Dispute resolution
• Contract management
• Discounts administration (volume, payment and tenure)

Modis also is responsible for the performance of the non-preferred vendors we provide.

The program gave the client control of their vendor list once again, which allowed them to ensure all vendors met their quality guidelines and billing rates. The number of invoices greatly decreased as well, and as a result, payment time dropped to approximately 30 days.

Modis developed a much more robust customer billing system that met the increasing demands of the client’s customers.
